THE STORY
THE GODDESSES OF MOUNT OLYMPUS
For Fall Winter 19, Mischka Aoki takes influence from its earliest period yet, a time which has featured in many classic works of art over centuries – Ancient Greece.
Like many of the greats throughout time, Mischka Aoki takes aspects from the mythological scriptures to influence their own art, particularly fascinated by goddesses and how they have been depicted for their power and beauty. Mischka Aoki has created a visionary collection that emulates just this.
The Goddesses of Mount Olympus, tells stories of twelve Gods and Goddesses who ruled the universe from atop of Greece’s Mount Olympus. Hera was the most powerful Queen of the Gods, she rode around in a peacock drawn chariot, which the collection represents magnificently with the use of feathers for stand-out shoulder details and neckpieces, as seen on The Queen of the Gods gown.
The story encompasses several astronomical phenomena, including the study of stars and constellations. This has influenced The Stars of Heaven dress with its cosmic blue colourway; and embraces intricately hand-embroidered stars, sun and moon beadwork, with vibrant red and yellow elements; finished off with decorative typography which reads ‘Wish Upon a Star’.
The collection consists of a varied colour palette - pastel green hues represent the earth goddesses with their romantic floral details, lighter aquatic blues represent fanciful water nymphs, pure whites and glittering golds are for the most powerful of rulers with their regal cape designs and ornamental, crystal shoulder epaulettes -all new elements for the season.
Also new for the brand are beautiful satin, ribbon tie sleeves, inspired from the lattice detailing in ancient Greek footwear designs, exhibited on The goddess of beauty Dress.
